LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ian and Marcia Brecher upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the Leadership Award by the Beth
Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Ian and Marcia Brecher have given not only their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ian and Marcia
Brecher upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Leadership Award by the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center to be cele-
brated at its Community Gala, on Sunday, May 17, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious honor is bestowed upon individuals who truly
dedicate their lives to supporting the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish
Center and the entire Oceanside community; and
WHEREAS, The Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center is a hub of Jewish
activity in Oceanside, New York; its members come to worship, to sing,
to learn, and to celebrate, all in a warm, caring environment with a
family touch; and
WHEREAS, Both Marcia and Ian Brecher were born in Brooklyn, New York,
and moved to the Five Towns attending rival high schools; while a
student at Lawrence High School, Ian Brecher organized his Senior Prom,
his first foray into event planning; and
WHEREAS, Marcia and Ian Brecher met as college students at the State
University of New York at Albany; Ian majored in Biology, and held the
position of President of the State Quad Program Council; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Ian Brecher served as a
Purchasing Agent for Star Corrugated Box Company; he then went on to
found his own company, Qualirite which provides specialty painting to
its clients throughout the Tri-State area; and
WHEREAS, Marcia Brecher majored in both English and French, and
studied abroad in Grenbole, France; she then went on to earn her
master's degree from Columbia University Teachers College; she served as
an English and French Teacher at various Long Island Schools, and taught
SAT Preparation classes at Stanley Kaplan for over 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Ian Brecher has held numerous positions at
the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center, including a member of the Board
of Trustees, and the Chair of the Membership Committee for numerous
years; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ian Brecher has been a vital participant of the
Executive Board, where he held several titles, such as Recording Secre-
tary, Corresponding Secretary, Vice President, Executive Vice President;
currently, he serves as President; and
WHEREAS, Ian Brecher also revitalized the Couples Club, and organized
many synagogue events; for his numerous contributions to the Beth
Shalom/Oceanside Jewish Center, he was the recipient of the Men's Club
Man of the Year Award in 2009; and
WHEREAS, A leader in the painting industry, Ian Brecher held the posi-
tions of both President of the Metro Chapter and the New York State
Council of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America; for his
stellar service in his field, he was recognized as Man of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Marcia Brecher is a vital member of the Inclusion Committee,
and participated on the Board of Directors of the Central Hebrew High
School; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Brecher has been a member of the Sisterhood for many
years, holding several titles, including Programming Chair, Social
Secretary, and four years as President; today, she serves as co-Presi-
dent; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was the recipient of the Woman of Valor
Award in 2010, and was selected as Kallah Bereishit; in addition, she
celebrated her Adult Bat Mitzvah at the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish
Center; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their two children, Stacey and
Scott (Jackie), and their two granddaughters, Ella and Hillary, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of their lives and rejoice in their
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Ian and Marcia Brecher have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ian and Marcia Brecher upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Leadership Award by the Beth Shalom/Oceanside Jewish
Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ian and Marcia Brecher.
