LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION, commending Father Patrick F. Healy upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition by the Catholic War
Veterans Post 386 on May 24, 2015

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Father
Patrick Healy upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by the Catholic War Veterans Post 386 to be celebrated at a dinner
dance held in his honor on Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Colden Manor at
Spruce Lodge, Montgomery, New York; and
WHEREAS, Prior to this event, Father Patrick F. Healy will conceleb-
rate a Memorial Mass for deceased members with Father Scafidi at Sacred
Heart Church, Newburgh, New York; after the service, the Catholic War
Veterans Post 386 will conduct its traditional Memorial Observance at
the Memorial Monument located at the front doors of Sacred Heart School;
and
WHEREAS, Patrick F. Healy was born to Patrick F. Healy, Sr. and Cathe-
rine Walsh Healy; in 1939, he graduated from English High School,
Boston, Massachusetts, and then attended Holy Angels Collegiate Insti-
tute, Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1943, Patrick F. Healy earned his degree in Philosophy
from Oblate College, Newburgh, New York, and then obtained a degree in
Theology from Oblate College, Washington, D.C. in 1947; in that same
year, he was ordained into the ministry; and
WHEREAS, Father Patrick F. Healy furthered his education by receiving
a Master's degree in Diplomatic History from Catholic University of
America, Washington, D.C., and a Master's degree from Long Island
University, Brooklyn, New York, as well as a Doctor of Religious Educa-
tion Honorary Degree from Oblate College, Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Father Patrick F. Healy held the position of educator at both
Bishop Fallon High School, Buffalo, New York, and Oblate College,
Newburgh, New York; he then traveled to the Far East, and held the title
of President of Oblate Seminary in Tokyo, and served at the University
of Maryland, Far East Division, in Okinawa and Japan; and
WHEREAS, After his return to the United States, Father Patrick F.
Healy proudly enlisted in the United States Army; he was first assigned
to Fort Dix, New Jersey, and then was deployed with the 1/17th Artillery
to Korea for 13 months; and
WHEREAS, From 1969-1971, Father Patrick F. Healy was stationed in
Vietnam, and then went on to Germany with the 3rd Armored Division for
four and one-half years; and
WHEREAS, Father Patrick F. Healy returned to the United States, and
was assigned to Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, New York; he then went back to
Japan and was based at Camp Zama; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, Father Patrick F. Healy once again returned home,
and began serving in the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado;
and
WHEREAS, Father Patrick F. Healy then decided to take a sabbatical,
and held the position of Pastor of St. Timothy's Church, Miami, Florida;
he was then a Oblate Resident in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, for four
years; and

WHEREAS, In 1989, Father Patrick F. Healy returned to the United
States Army, and consequently, was assigned to the Stewart Sub Post,
West Point, New York, a position he officially retired from in 1999; and
WHEREAS, After his retirement, Father Patrick F. Healy served as
Catholic Chaplain at the Soldiers Home in both Washington, D.C., and
Chelsea, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Father Patrick F. Healy has demonstrated his love for his country and
merits forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when veterans
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Father Patrick F. Healy upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Catholic War Veterans Post 386 on May 24,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Patrick F. Healy.
