LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the untimely death of Jose O. Rosario,
beloved coach and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Jose O. Rosario, of Washingtonville, New York, died on March
30, 2015, at the age of 44, while saving the lives of his son and two of
his friends from drowning while vacationing in Puerto Rico; and
WHEREAS, Born on June 4, 1970, in Manhattan, New York, Jose O. Rosar-
io, affectionately known as Joe, was the son of Carmelo A. Rosario, Sr.
and Maria De Jesus; and
WHEREAS, Jose O. Rosario distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, After 21 years of distinguished service, Jose O. Rosario
recently retired from the New York City Police Department; he was known
as a man who was willing to help those in need, and for always wearing a
smile; and
WHEREAS, Jose O. Rosario's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, An active member of the Washingtonville community, this
esteemed man dedicated his life to working with children in youth
sports, serving as a board member of Washingtonville Youth Football and
Cheerleading League, a Little League Coach, and a volunteer for CYO
Basketball; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his brother, Carmelo, Jr., Jose O. Rosario is
survived by his loving wife, the former Inez Candelaria; their two chil-
dren, Noah and Anais; one step-daughter, Leshia; his grandson, Gabriel;
his parents, Carmelo Sr. and Maria; and six siblings, Jimmy, Emilio,
Alicia, Helen, Melany, and Yolanda; as well as numerous aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews, and cousins; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Jose O. Rosario leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
those he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the untimely death of Jose O. Rosario, beloved coach and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Jose O. Rosario.
