LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Lori Itzla Van Tassel upon the
occasion of her induction into the 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS
Seward Institute
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Lori Itzla Van Tassel upon the occasion of her induction into the
2014 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute, which was cele-
brated at its Induction Ceremony on September 27, 2014; and
WHEREAS, An important figure in the history of the SS Seward Institute
Athletics Program, Lori Itzla Van Tassel, Class of 1991, had an
outstanding athletic career with the Lady Seward Spartans; and
WHEREAS, During her illustrious high school athletic career, Lori
Itzla Van Tassel was a mainstay on the varsity soccer team for four
years which included four straight Class D Section 9 Titles, and the
first ever New York State Championship team in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Lori Itzla Van Tassel had three productive years
in both varsity softball and varsity basketball; and
WHEREAS, In 1991, Lori Itzla Van Tassel led the SS Seward Institute to
the Class D Section 9 Championship where they made it to the State Final
Four; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from high school, Lori Itzla Van Tassel
earned a soccer scholarship to Tusculum College in Tennessee, where she
played Division II soccer for four years; and
WHEREAS, In 1991, Lori Itzla Van Tassel made the All-District Team, as
well as the All-State Women's Soccer Team; and
WHEREAS, Lori Itzla Van Tassel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Physical Education; she taught briefly in the Port Jervis
School District, followed by a part-time position at the SS Seward
Institute; and
WHEREAS, Today, Lori Itzla Van Tassel of Pine Bush, New York, teaches
at the Walden Elementary School within the Valley Central School
District; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Lori Itzla Van Tassel has had the plea-
sure of coaching various sports on the modified, junior varsity, and
varsity levels; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband Samuel, and their
two children, Erin and Samuel, who feel privileged to be a part of her
life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Lori Itzla Van Tassel provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Lori Itzla Van Tassel has clearly been an inspiration to the
youth of the SS Seward Institute, as well as to the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lori Itzla Van Tassel upon the occasion of her induction
into the 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame by the SS Seward Institute; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lori Itzla Van Tassel.
