LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace upon
the occasion of his retirement after 22 years of dedicated service to
the United States Marine Corps

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize those remarkable individuals who honorably and courageously
serve their country in order to protect the life and liberty of our
citizens, and whose military service, professional lives, and civic
endeavors serve to enhance the stature of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace upon the occasion of his retirement
after 22 years of dedicated service to the United States Marine Corps to
be celebrated at a Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony on Satur-
day, June 6, 2015, at the Stewart Air National Guard Base, Newburgh, New
York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Leesburg, Virginia, Ian S. Wallace received an
ROTC scholarship, and consequently, he studied Computer Design Engineer-
ing at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Ian S. Wallace was commissioned a Second
Lieutenant in May of 1993, and selected for aviation training while
completing The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia; in January of 1994,
he reported to Naval Air Training Command (NATC), Pensacola, Florida, to
begin flight training; and
WHEREAS, In May of 1996, First Lieutenant Ian S. Wallace was desig-
nated a Naval Aviator, and reported to Marine Aircraft Group 14, 2nd
Marine Air Wing (MAW), MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, for KC-130
training at Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Training Squadron (VMGRT)
253; and
WHEREAS, In July of 1997, First Lieutenant Ian S. Wallace reported to
VMGR-252 at MCAS Cherry Point, where he served as Adjutant, Airframes
Officer-In-Charge (0IC), Quality Assurance OIC, and Assistant Mainte-
nance Officer; and
WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Ian S. Wallace was deployed to Incirlik,
Turkey, flying missions in support of Operation NORTHERN WATCH from
April through May, and again from November through December of 1998; he
then deployed to Italy, flying combat sorties in support of Operation
ALLIED FORCE in 1999; and
WHEREAS, In May of 2000, Captain Ian S. Wallace reported to VMGR-152,
MAG 36, 1st MAW, on MCAS Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the
Aviation Safety Officer, Aircrew Training Officer, and Assistant Oper-
ations Officer; in this capacity, he earned designations as a NATOPS
Instructor, Weapons and Tactics Instructor, Night Systems Instructor,
and Defensive Tactics Instructor; and
WHEREAS, Once again Captain Ian S. Wallace was sent to Turkey in
support of Operation NORTHERN WATCH, from February through March 2002,
and to the Philippines in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM from
April through May, and in October of 2002; and
WHEREAS, Upon his return to the United States, Major Ian S. Wallace
earned a master's degree in Military Science from the Marine Corps
Command and Staff College, Quantico, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, After graduating, Major Ian S. Wallace reported to Aviation
Training Branch, Training and Education Command, Quantico, Virginia,
where he held the position of Marine Corps Fixed-Wing Aviation Training
Programs Manager from 2005-2007; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2007, Major Ian S. Wallace reported back to VMGR-
152, where he served as the Operations Officer, the KC-130J Fleet Intro-

duction Team OIC, and the Executive Officer; during his tenure, he flew
missions in support of Operation SEA ANGEL II, providing disaster relief
for Bangladesh after Cyclone Sidr, and led the KC-130 Detachment
deployed for Operation CARING RESPONSE, providing disaster relief for
Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis; and
WHEREAS, Major Ian S. Wallace reported to Marine Corps Bases Japan in
September of 2008 to serve as the Deputy Director for the Futenma
Replacement Facility Program; in this position, he worked through poli-
tical negotiations and procedures with the United States and Japanese
Government agencies to manage Master Planning and facilities development
at Camp Schwab in accordance with the 2004 US-Japan Defense Policy
Review Initiative; and
WHEREAS, In June 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace reported to
Marine Corps Air Station Futenma where he held the title of both Station
Executive Officer and Commanding Officer, focusing on providing fully
operational capable installation facilities and services to meet mission
requirements of III MEF, Pacific Command and United Nations Command; and
WHEREAS, In response to the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, tsunami and subse-
quent nuclear disaster in northern Japan, Lieutenant Colonel Ian S.
Wallace led installation safe haven operations, as well as flew humani-
tarian assistance missions around the radiation hazard zone; and
WHEREAS, In March of 2013, Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace and his
family re-located to Newburgh, New York; on May 4, 2013, he took command
of Marine Aircraft Group 49 Detachment B, a position from which he will
officially retire on June 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace has been the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades for his dedicated service to the Marine
Corps, including four Meritorious Service Medals, Strike/Flight Air
Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, the former Karen
Boner, and their daughter, Brianna, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who dedicate their lives to military service
merit the commendation and applause of all citizens for their commitment
to the preservation of American freedom; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace upon the occasion of his

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lieutenant Colonel Ian S. Wallace.
