LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Shavon Lloyd upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the
Orange-Ulster BOCES on May 1, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Shavon Lloyd
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES celebrated at its Second
Annual Awards Breakfast, on May 1, 2015, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and
WHEREAS, Shavon Lloyd has distinguished himself as a young man of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, A Senior at Middletown High School, Middletown, New York,
Shavon Lloyd has plans to major in Music Education at the Crane School
of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam, after graduat-
ing; and
WHEREAS, A multi-talented musician, Shavon Lloyd actively participates
in many school music programs; he holds the position of Band Council
President, and serves as the trombone section leader, Council President,
and pianist of the Jazz Band; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Shavon Lloyd holds the title of both Student
Director and Accompanist of the Concert Choir, and is a member of the
Chamber Singers and the Pipers; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, Shavon Lloyd founded the school's first student-run,
mixed-gender a capella group, The Middle C's; throughout his high school
years, he participated in All-County, Area All-State, and various All-
State Festivals; and
WHEREAS, In November of 2014, Shavon Lloyd won a statewide composition
contest, which was performed by the Manhattan Choral Ensemble; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Shavon Lloyd
has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Shavon Lloyd may stand with pride in his achievements, expe-
riencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his accomplish-
ments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he continues
his education; and
WHEREAS, Shavon Lloyd represents the potential inherent in our most
precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to honor
this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of his
future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shavon Lloyd upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and to
wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Shavon Lloyd.
