LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the officers and members of the Floral
Park Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Company No. 1 upon the occasion
of dedicating their new ambulance in Memory of Firefighter and EMT-CC
Joseph J. Reekie, Sr. on May 31, 2015
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes great pride in acknowledging those
esteemed individuals within the State of New York who distinguished
themselves in service to their community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to join the officers
and members of the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Company
No. 1 upon the occasion of dedicating their new ambulance in memory of
Firefighter and EMT-CC Joseph J. Reekie, Sr.; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate this auspicious occasion, a Dedication Ceremony
will be held at Floral Park Fire Department headquarters, Floral Park,
New York, on Sunday, May 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Firefighter and EMT-CC Joseph J. Reekie, Sr. is being honored
posthumously in recognition of his 45 years of devoted service to both
the Fire Department and to the residents of the Village of Floral Park;
and
WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our valiant firefighters who exhibit courage and bravery in
the course of their duties; and
WHEREAS, Firefighters exemplify the power of human compassion and the
strength of the American spirit through actions of the most heroic
magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless dedication merit tribute
and recognition by all citizens of this great country; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Joseph
J. Reekie, Sr. was one such firefighter; throughout his 45 years of
devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; and
WHEREAS, In the performance of his duties, Joseph J. Reekie, Sr.
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others;
he was a tremendous asset to Rescue Company No. 1 and a distinguished
citizen of the State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the officers and members of the Floral Park Volunteer Fire
Department, Rescue Company No. 1 upon the occasion of dedicating their
new ambulance in memory of Firefighter and EMT-CC Joseph J. Reekie, Sr.
on May 31, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department, Rescue Company No.
1, and the family of Joseph J. Reekie, Sr.
