LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James E. Ferguson upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Orange County Fire Prevention Educa-
tor of the Year Award by the Orange County Firefighters Museum

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James E. Ferguson upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Orange County Fire Prevention Educator of the Year Award by the
Orange County Firefighters Museum, to be celebrated at its 5th Annual
Fundraiser of the Fire Safety Education Center in Montgomery, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Newburgh, New York, James E. Ferguson
joined the Vails Gate Fire Department and the Goshen Fire Department
before becoming a member of the Montgomery Fire Department where he has
valiantly served in every capacity from Lieutenant to Chief for more
than three decades; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community he so ably serves, James E.
Ferguson is on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Firefighters
Museum and is a member of the Fire Chief's Association of Orange County;
he also serves as both a Fire Commissioner of the Montgomery Fire
District and as the Fire Prevention Officer; and
WHEREAS, James E. Ferguson has been the proud recipient of countless
awards and accolades, some of which include Firefighter of the Year,
John Conroy Memorial Award, Commissioner's Award, Roger Andolsek Memori-
al Award, President's Award and the Chief's Award, and has served on
various truck committees as well as a member of the parade committee for
the 200th Anniversary celebration; and
WHEREAS, In addition to giving of his time and energies as a volunteer
firefighter, James E. Ferguson has worked for the Orange County Sher-
iff's Office as a Corrections Officer for 35 years and has received
numerous administrative awards and commendations for this position; and
he has been an active member of the Goodwill Evangelical Presbyterian
Church; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Mildred, and his
daughter, Patricia (Mark), as well as his grandson, Wyatt, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, James E. Ferguson has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which James E. Ferguson has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and volunteer
efforts, James E. Ferguson's ongoing endeavors and notable achievements
have significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life in his
community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James E. Ferguson upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Orange County Fire Prevention Educator of the Year Award by
the Orange County Firefighters Museum; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James E. Ferguson.
