LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Carole K. Nussbaum upon the occasion of
her retirement after more than 50 distinguished years as an educator
within the New York City Department of Education
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Carole K. Nussbaum upon the occasion of her retirement after more than
50 distinguished years as an educator within the New York City Depart-
ment of Education; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Carole K. Nussbaum provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
young people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in
their future years; and
WHEREAS, A native of Queens, New York, Carole K. Nussbaum has held a
richly varied scope of positions in the New York City School District
including District 32 staff developer, multi-ethnic reading teacher, UFT
Teacher Center Director in Districts 24 and 26, and Assistant Principal
at M.S. 216Q; and
WHEREAS, Carole K. Nussbaum has also taught as an adjunct professor at
C.W. Post, Brooklyn College, Queens College, and the College of New
Rochelle; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Carole K. Nussbaum has traveled extensively
around the world giving her a deep appreciation and understanding of
other cultures; she has utilized this experience to endear herself to
students and their parents from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 23 years, this esteemed educator has served as
Principal of the Oakland Gardens School, P.S. 203 in Bayside, Queens,
working tirelessly to ensure that every child has access to a quality
education; and
WHEREAS, A true academic leader, Carole K. Nussbaum has created a
learning environment at P.S. 203 which embraces diversity, and encour-
ages excellence in all students; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Carole K. Nussbaum has continually
demonstrated an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at
Oakland Gardens School; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman's dedication to the socio-emotional
growth of each child at her school is best captured in the school
mission she created, "Every child is entitled to an enriched education";
and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has clearly had an enduring impact on
the youth under her care, as well as on the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedi-
cation to others; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Norman, their
three children, Steven, Michelle (Greg), and Lauren (Mike), and grand-
daughter, Sydney, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life
and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of educational leaders who work to support our proud tradition
of public education by providing their skills and talents to our
schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Carole K. Nussbaum upon the occasion of her retirement after more
than 50 distinguished years as an educator within the New York City
Department of Education, and to wish her all the best in her future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Carole K. Nussbaum.
