LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Evergreen after more than three decades
of revitalizing East Williamsburg, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Evergreen after more than three decades of revitalizing East Williams-
burg to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Evergreen is a membership organization which champions manu-
facturing, creative production, and industrial service businesses in
North Brooklyn and beyond; it connects businesses with resources and
opportunities to help create and maintain high quality jobs at all skill
levels; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1982 by a handful of local business owners,
Evergreen, then known as EWVIDCO, was organized to revitalize East
Williamsburg by attracting new businesses, providing business assistance
to existing firms and to grow overall job opportunities in the neighbor-
hood; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Evergreen worked to achieve its mission of
economic development by addressing the high crime and poor sanitation
affecting the area and serving as a liaison to government offices; and
WHEREAS, Today, Evergreen manages the Greenpoint/Williamsburg and
North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zones and the North Brooklyn Empire
Zone; through the NYC Industrial Business Zone (IBZ) program, Evergreen
is responsible for meeting the business service needs of more than
10,000 industrial businesses in the Greenpoint/Williamsburg and North
Brooklyn Industrial Business Zones and Ombudsman Zones; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, these businesses, which employ over 15,000 resi-
dents, depend on Evergreen for free, quick and reliable assistance with
tax credits, incentives, financing, real estate and relocation assist-
ance, energy and green issues, workforce needs, and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, Evergreen provides these services in concert with public
agencies, nonprofit organizations and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, A force in the improvement of the North Brooklyn economy
since its inception, Evergreen continues to offer a wide range of busi-
ness services and acts as an advocate for local business interests; and
WHEREAS, The success of Evergreen is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its members and staff, whose involvement is, and always has
been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusi-
asm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on
behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Evergreen; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Evergreen after more than three decades of revitalizing East
Williamsburg, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Evergreen.
