LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION remembering and honoring the lives of the 13
victims of Buffalo's November Winter Storm of 2014

WHEREAS, It is fitting that all people from the State of New York and
across our Nation share in the solemn commemoration of those who lost
their lives during the November Winter Storm of 2014, in Buffalo, New
York; and
WHEREAS, On the evening of Monday, November 17, 2014, an epic winter
storm began which devastated Buffalo and Western New York; and
WHEREAS, The storm, which lasted for four days, tragically claimed the
lives of 13 individuals despite the heroic efforts of first responders;
parents, spouses, children, co-workers, military veterans, and a good
Samaritan from out of town are all among those who perished; and
WHEREAS, The cleanup and rescue operations made this one of the dead-
liest and most severe winter storms in our Nation's history; and
WHEREAS, During this tragedy, the community came together in a tremen-
dous way, helping not only friends and family, but aiding neighbors and
strangers, in their time of need; and
WHEREAS, A community is only as strong as its members, and the people
of Buffalo and Western New York showed the entire country the strength
of their community and the bravery and resolve of their people; and
WHEREAS, From neighbors helping one another dig out their homes, to
residents taking in a stranded traveler, to firemen in South Buffalo
delivering a baby, we are reminded that Buffalo, New York, truly is the
City of Good Neighbors; and
WHEREAS, The generosity and compassion of people from across the State
and Nation were made apparent by the outpouring of sympathy and contrib-
utions to the people of Western New York, as well as their prompt
response and aid, which have been a blessing in the catastrophic wake of
Buffalo's November Winter Storm of 2014; and
WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body respectfully mourns the untimely death of Stephen H. Thomas, Cynt-
hia Woodrick, Michael N. Strachan, Lyle H. Hull Sr., Ruth R. Snyder,
Valentine L. Mozdziak, John "Jack" Boyce, James A. Thomas Sr., Jan
Barsam, David M. Deneke, Donald J. Abate, Robert M. Cedar, and Delancey
Scott, who all passed away as a result of this devastating storm; and
WHEREAS, The memory of those who lost their lives in the unprecedented
tragedy which befell our Great State on November 17, 2014, will forever
remain with their families, and will live in the hearts of every New
Yorker and every American; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
remember and honor the lives of the 13 victims of Buffalo's November
Winter Storm of 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the families of the 13 victims of Buffalo's November Winter
Storm of 2014.
