LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Sona Goswami upon the occasion of
her designation as Teenager of the Year by the Colonie Lodge of Elks No.
2192
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS; This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Sona
Goswami upon the occasion of her designation as Teenager of the Year by
the Colonie Lodge of Elks No. 2192, to be celebrated with a Ceremony on
Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the Colonie Town Supervisor's Office; and
WHEREAS, Sona Goswami was selected for this auspicious honor in recog-
nition of her strong academic performance, her service to her school,
and her commitment to the community; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Shaker High School, Sona Goswami is ranked in the
top tenth percentile of her graduating class; she has maintained an
impressive 4.0 average while pursuing one of the school's most rigorous
academic programs; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious high school career, Sona Goswami
has served as a dedicated peer tutor in math and was a member of both
the Freshman Volleyball Team and the Modified Lacrosse Team; she also
assisted in lab research on three-dimensional tissue in the Bio Engi-
neering Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Sona Goswami's extracurricular activities are equally impres-
sive; she was Vice President of the Speech and Debate Club from 2012 to
2013, where she currently serves as President; she has been a dedicated
violin player for the Shaker Orchestra since 2006, and was inducted into
the Tri-M Music Honor Society, an international music honor society
designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this exemplary young woman has been a member of
student government and the Indian Student Organization since 2011; she
is also a member of the Medical Club and the Shaker High School Building
Council; and
WHEREAS, With a true passion for dance, Sona Goswami has performed at
several community events; she was selected to participate in the "Girls
Take Charge" Leadership Course, and is the proud recipient of the
Student Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Sona Goswami has given tireless-
ly of her time and energies to the Town of Colonie Summer Camp, the New
York State Museum Children's Science Discovery Center, Albany Memorial
Hospital and the Hindu Temple Youth Camp; and
WHEREAS, In achieving this high honor, Sona Goswami may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence
she brings to her family, friends, community and school; and
WHEREAS, Sona Goswami's sense of civic duty and her commitment to
others represents the best development of the potential which is inher-
ent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sona Goswami upon the occasion of her designation as Teen-
ager of the Year by the Colonie Lodge of Elks No. 2192; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sona Goswami.
