LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James M. Flaherty upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Fort
Orange Club
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor James M. Flah-
erty upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of distin-
guished service to the Fort Orange Club; and
WHEREAS, James M. Flaherty began employment at the Fort Orange Club on
September 19, 1970; and
WHEREAS, From 1980 until 1984, James M. Flaherty served as Assistant
House Manager-Dining Room Manager; and
WHEREAS, James M. Flaherty was promoted to Assistant Club Manager, a
position in which he served from 1984 - 1994; and
WHEREAS, On September 19, 1994, James M. Flaherty was appointed Gener-
al Manager of the Fort Orange Club, a position in which he served with
distinction for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, During his time at the Fort Orange Club, James M. Flaherty
was responsible for planning and directing the Millennium and 125th Club
Anniversary Celebrations in 1999 and 2005, respectively; and
WHEREAS, As General Manager, James M. Flaherty spearheaded the effort
for the expansion and improvement of the Club's parking facilities; in
addition, he was responsible for enlarging the footprint of the Club and
enhancing the streetscape along Washington Avenue, as well as the driv-
ing force behind the construction of the Club's state-of-the-art Athlet-
ic Facility; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, James M. Flaherty rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Fort Orange Club, earning the
admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as General Manager, he served with loyalty,
honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and
always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James M. Flaherty upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Fort Orange Club; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James M. Flaherty.
