LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ruth Mandelbaum upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Temple Isaiah of Great
Neck, New York

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Mandelbaum has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Ruth
Mandelbaum upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Temple Isaiah of Great Neck, New York, to be celebrated at its
2015 Gala Dinner on Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Manhasset Bay Yacht
Club, Port Washington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Mandelbaum grew up in Manhattan, and attended New York
City public schools; after graduation, she attended Columbia University,
New York City, for two years; and
WHEREAS, After raising her family, Ruth Mandelbaum decided to continue
her education, receiving two degrees in Education from C. W. Post
College of Long Island University, Brookville, New York; for several
years, she taught kindergarten in Glenwood Landing, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Mandelbaum has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, After her retirement, Ruth Mandelbaum became an active member
of Hadassah, holding many positions such as President, and Membership
and Publicity Chair; in addition, she started a Hebrew class for the
congregants of Temple Isaiah; and
WHEREAS, After her husband passed away in 2001, Temple Isaiah played a
vital role in Ruth Mandelbaum's life; she has held the position of Chair
of several committees including membership and worship, and has assisted
with the Lunch and Learn Program; and
WHEREAS, Ruth Mandelbaum was instrumental in the introduction of a
weekly e-mail service, the UpDate, which provides important information
to the members of Temple Isaiah; she also introduced meals for the
congregants to share after their monthly Saturday morning services; and
WHEREAS, A firm believer in lifelong learning, Ruth Mandelbaum
successfully completed her adult Bat Mitzvah and confirmation, and rare-
ly misses a service or Torah Study; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Ruth Mandelbaum has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ruth Mandelbaum upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Temple Isaiah of Great Neck, New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ruth Mandelbaum.
