LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Major General David J. Conboy upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the Distinguished Service
Medal

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Forces, who have served so valiantly and
honorably in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at stake deserve a
special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Major General
David J. Conboy upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Distinguished Service Medal, the United States Army's third highest
military decoration; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1918, the Distinguished Service Medal is
presented by the United States Army to any person who, while serving in
any capacity with the United States military, has distinguished them-
selves by exceptionally meritorious service to the Government in a duty
of great responsibility; and
WHEREAS, Major General David J. Conboy graduated from Grand Island
High School, and received his bachelor's degree in 1984 from the Univer-
sity of Notre Dame; he also holds master's degrees from the University
at Buffalo, and the United States Army War College; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Major General David J.
Conboy has proudly served his country on numerous deployments to such
countries as Iraq, South Korea, and Greenland; and
WHEREAS, Today, this esteemed military leader serves as the Deputy
Commanding General for the United States Army Reserve Command, oversee-
ing units throughout the continental United States, Hawaii, Puerto Rico,
Europe, and Korea; and
WHEREAS, Major General David J. Conboy has been the recipient of
numerous prestigious awards and honors for his outstanding service
including the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Karen, their three
children, Sara, David, and Clare, and granddaughter, Bailey, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, The banner of freedom will always wave over this great
Nation, the land of the free and the home of the brave; and
WHEREAS, The freedoms and security we cherish as Americans come at a
very high price for those serving in the military in times of conflict;
it is fitting and proper that we who are the beneficiaries of those who
risk their lives, leaving their families behind, express our deep appre-
ciation and eternal gratitude for their noble sacrifices and courageous
acts; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Major General David J. Conboy upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Major General David J. Conboy.
