LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. David Hahn upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service as an educator

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of those outstanding
educational leaders, whose dedication and achievements have been instru-
mental in developing character and academic excellence in the young
people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
David Hahn upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service as an educator; this momentous occasion will be
celebrated with a Party in his honor on Friday, June 19, 2015, at the
Tom O'Shanter Country Club, Glen Head, New York; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Dr. David Hahn provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Hahn has been in the ministry of Lutheran education
as a teacher and administrator for four decades; he has served Lutheran
secondary schools and colleges in Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota and New
York; and
WHEREAS, Head of School at Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School
since 1987, Dr. David Hahn has been instrumental in the success and
progress of this vital institution; and
WHEREAS, During the esteemed tenure of Dr. David Hahn, Long Island
Lutheran Middle and High School has grown from 375 to 600 students,
developed a top-quality faculty/staff of 100, acquired ownership of a
Lutheran N-5 school serving over 200 students, added significant facili-
ties and programs, solidified its financial position and generally
enhanced its reputation as one of the finest schools in the New York
metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, In addition, under the able leadership of Dr. David Hahn,
Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School has raised significant funds
in a series of highly successful fundraising campaigns; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2014, Dr. David Hahn assumed an exciting new role
as Executive Director of the Association of Lutheran Secondary Schools
(ALSS), a professional organization serving 74 Lutheran schools across
the United States and Asia; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Hahn received a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Concordia University in Chicago; he went on to earn a Master of Educa-
tion from Towson State University and a Ph.D. in Educational Adminis-
tration from the University of Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, Active within the community he so ably serves, Dr. David Hahn
continues to be involved with the Atlantic District LCMS (Board), the
Wartburg Adult Care Community (Board) and the Association of Lutheran
Development Executives (Past VP); and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he is a member of the Lutheran Church of the
Resurrection in Garden City, New York, and for the past eight years, he
has served on the faculty of the Van Lunen Center, an executive educa-
tion program for emerging leaders of Christian schools worldwide; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Hahn is the proud recipient of awards from the
Association of Lutheran Development Executives, the Association of Luth-
eran Secondary Schools, Wheat Ridge Ministries, the Lutheran Schools

Association, Grace Lutheran School, Valparaiso University and the Long
Island Lutheran faculty and staff; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Janet, and their
three daughters, as well as three grandsons, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Hahn has clearly had an enduring impact on the
youth of the Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School, as well as on
the community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause
for his impressive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, In completing his service as an educator, Dr. David Hahn
leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves behind a lega-
cy to the residents of the communities he so ably served and to future
generations of its students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. David Hahn upon the occasion of his retirement as an educator,
after many years of dedicated service in education, and to wish him
continued success in all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. David Hahn.
