LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Honorary Chief Roger F. Fay upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the Firefighter of the Year
Award by the Williston Park Fire Department
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Honorary
Chief Roger F. Fay upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Firefighter of the Year Award by the Williston Park Fire Department,
to be celebrated at its 88th Annual Inspection and Installation Dinner
Dance on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the Long Island Marriott, Uniondale,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Williston Park Fire Department is a volunteer organiza-
tion established in 1927, for the purpose of preventing and extinguish-
ing fires, and protecting life and property; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated firefighters of the Williston Park Fire Depart-
ment proudly protect the residents and visitors of its village of Willi-
ston Park, New York; with over 7,500 people, and 2,641 housing units,
and some 300 businesses in an area of .7 square miles, its population
density rivals or exceeds some of the major cities in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Roger F. Fay joined the Williston Park Fire Department in
1955; throughout his tenure, he served as Company Treasurer for more
than 30 years, and in 2005, he was named an Honorary Chief in recogni-
tion of his 50 years of dedicated service to the Department; and
WHEREAS, Roger F. Fay has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the well-being of his community, Roger F. Fay
held the position of both Village Trustee and Mayor from 1960-1968; in
this capacity, he was responsible for spearheading the initiative to
expand Village Hall, construct the Village Pool, and erect the current
Firehouse; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, Roger F. Fay held the position of Executive
Director of the Nassau County Village Officials Association and current-
ly holds the title of Executive Director Emeritus; he also serves as
Village Historian and member of the Historical Committee; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Roger F. Fay has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Honor-
ary Chief Roger F. Fay is such a firefighter; throughout 60 years of
devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Honorary Chief Roger F. Fay upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Firefighter of the Year Award by the Williston Park
Fire Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Honorary Chief Roger F. Fay.
