LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jim Hoover upon the occasion of
his induction into the 2015 New York State Public High School Athletic
Association Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jim Hoover upon the occasion of his induction into the 2015 New
York State Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame to be
celebrated on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at the Doubletree in Tarrytown,
New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 39 years, Jim Hoover has guided young athletes
to success both on and off the field as the coach of the Walton High
School Varsity Football Team; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Vestal High School, Jim Hoover, as a young man,
played football under the instruction of his father, Dick Hoover; and
WHEREAS, Jim Hoover proudly served his country as a member of the
United Marine Corps. for four years before receiving his bachelor's
degree from Ithaca College, and master's degree from the College of
Saint Rose; and
WHEREAS, As coach of the Walton Warriors Football Team, Jim Hoover has
compiled an impressive overall record of 306 victories against 80 loss-
es; he is also one of only five coaches in New York State history in the
300-win club; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure, Jim Hoover guided his teams to
the 1994 Class C State Championship and the 2007 Class D State Champion-
ship, finishing 13-0 in both seasons; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable leader and mentor also led the Walton Warri-
ors to 10-0 seasons in 1987 and 1989, as well as an 11-0 campaign in
1991, prior to the implementation of the State playoff system; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, Jim Hoover coached the Warriors to an 8-1 record,
finishing a season unbeaten or with one loss for the 19th time in his
career; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades and honors, Jim Hoover
has been named THE DAILY STAR'S Coach of the Year 11 times, and was
inducted into the 2009 Section IV Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Athletes and coaches such as Jim Hoover provide a tremendous
service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of
student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success
in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Jim Hoover has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
Walton High School, as well as to the community-at-large, and according-
ly merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to
others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jim Hoover upon the occasion of his induction into the 2015
New York State Public High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Jim Hoover.
