LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Elizabeth DeFalco posthumously for her
many years of outstanding service to the Central Oneida County Volunteer
Ambulance Corps

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether through participation
in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Elizabeth
DeFalco posthumously for her many years of outstanding service to the
Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 20, 1928, in Utica, New York, Elizabeth Storey
DeFalco was the daughter of Arlo and Catherine Munn Storey; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed medical professional graduated as valedictorian
of her class from Westmoreland Central School in 1945, and received her
bachelor's degree from Utica Memorial School of Nursing to become a
Registered Nurse in 1949; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth DeFalco began her nursing career at Shriners Hospi-
tal for Children in Boston, Massachusetts, before continuing on to Rome
Memorial Hospital and various local doctors' offices; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Elizabeth DeFalco became a founding member of the
Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where she would contin-
ue to serve with loyalty, honor and distinction for many years; and
WHEREAS, During her illustrious tenure, Elizabeth DeFalco selflessly
contributed her time and energies as a volunteer on the Central Oneida
County Volunteer Ambulance Corps Board of Directors and as Captain of
the Department; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth DeFalco died on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the
age of 87; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her husband, J. Elliot, and her brother,
William, Elizabeth DeFalco is survived by two sons, A. Richard and Elli-
ot; four grandchildren, William (Carrie), Anna, Margery, and Arlo; and
three great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Barbara Joan
(Charles); and several cousins; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth DeFalco was well-known throughout the community for
her excellence and professionalism, and for always going the extra mile
in the provision of care to people in need; her hard work embodied the
dedication, compassion, and respect displayed by emergency responders
across this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Elizabeth DeFalco displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit, imbued with a sense of
compassion, and comforted by a loving family, Elizabeth DeFalco leaves
behind a legacy which will long endure the passage of time and will
remain as a comforting memory to all she served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Elizabeth DeFalco posthumously for her many years of outstanding
service to the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Elizabeth DeFalco.
