LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Correction Officer T.J. Strack for his
extraordinary service in 2014 to be recognized with a Medal by the New
York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the caring concern and heroic acts of individuals who take
prompt and appropriate action in emergency situations, remaining calm
under pressure, to come to the assistance of persons in peril; and
WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of human life are cherished values,
worthy of safeguarding; this Legislative Body is proud to honor an indi-
vidual who would serve to protect these ideals; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Correction
Officer T.J. Strack for his extraordinary service in 2014 to be recog-
nized with a Medal by the New York State Department of Corrections and
Community Supervision at a ceremony on Thursday, June 11, 2015, in Alba-
ny, New York; and
WHEREAS, On December 12, 2014, a level two emergency response was
requested following an assault on a Correction Officer in the B-Block at
the Clinton Correctional Facility; and
WHEREAS, Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, Correction Offi-
cer T.J. Strack immediately began to render medical attention to the
injured officer using his skills as a certified Emergency Medical Tech-
nician (EMT); and
WHEREAS, Correction Officer T.J. Strack monitored the Correction Offi-
cer's condition until an ambulance arrived; he also assisted the
responding EMT's in placing and securing him on a backboard; and
WHEREAS, After obtaining permission to accompany his stricken co-work-
er en route to the hospital, Correction Officer T.J. Strack noticed he
was unresponsive and not breathing; he repeatedly administered life-sav-
ing CPR until the ambulance reached the hospital, and his efforts were
successful in reviving his injured colleague; and
WHEREAS, Correction Officer T.J. Strack's immediate response and spon-
taneous actions should be meritoriously praised; equally commendable was
his ability to remain calm under pressure while performing a truly
valiant deed; and
WHEREAS, Through his heroic actions, Correction Officer T.J. Strack
demonstrated his character and his compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying, by virtue of his actions, the collective concern of citi-
zens across the community of New York State who voluntarily respond
without the thought of danger or reward when others are in need of help;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals (associations) of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Correction Officer T.J. Strack for his extraordinary service in
2014 with the New York State Department of Corrections and Community
Supervision; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Correction Officer T.J. Strack.
