LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Kleinhans
Music Hall on October 12, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to those cultural institutions and organizations whose commitment to
promoting the richness and diversity of the arts and entertainment world
has contributed to the strength, vitality, and cultural enrichment of
their communities and the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body takes great pleasure in
commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Kleinhans Music Hall on Monday,
October 12, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1989, Kleinhans
Music Hall has a reputation for being one of the most acoustically
perfect concert halls in the World; orchestra musicians, conductors, and
soloists enjoy performing at this vital institution; and
WHEREAS, Kleinhans Music Hall was built through the generosity and
vision of Edward and Mary Seaton Kleinhans, and the stewardship of their
charitable organization, the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo;
and
WHEREAS, Kleinhans Music Hall was designed by the famous Finnish
father and son team of Eliel and Eero Saarinen, along with architects
F.J. and W.A. Kidd; the Hall is known for its combination of graceful
structural beauty and extraordinary acoustics; and
WHEREAS, The intricate design of Kleinhans Music Hall resembles the
body of a string instrument, as does the main auditorium; in addition,
there are three notable rooms within the hall, the Main Auditorium,
Livingston Hall, and the Mary Seaton Room; and
WHEREAS, On October 12, 1940, Kleinhans Music Hall officially opened
its doors to the public, featuring the Buffalo Philharmonic, conducted
by Franco Autori; and
WHEREAS, The arts are the building blocks of civilization; they are
central to human expression; they enlighten us and inspire the imagina-
tion; educational institutions, individuals, and organizations which
further such worthy purposes richly merit the recognition and appreci-
ation of this Legislative Body and the people of the State of New York;
and
WHEREAS, Today, under the able leadership of Chair of the Board of
Directors, Chris Brown, Kleinhans Music Hall continues to host the best
of classical, pops, and rock concerts, as well as countless graduations,
proms, recitals, weddings, parties and corporate events; it is not only
the epicenter of Western New York's classical music scene, but a true
community center; and
WHEREAS, As Kleinhans Music Hall looks back with great pride to its
beginnings, viewing, with just satisfaction, its successful evolution,
it renews both its dedication to supporting artistic excellence, and its
commitment to the community it has served since 1940, expressing its
appreciation to all those who have helped to sustain and enhance it over
the years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Kleinhans Music Hall on October 12,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chris Brown, Chair of the Board of Directors, Kleinhans Music
Hall.
