LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 95th Anniversary of Mineo &
Sapio Italian Sausage on June 20, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 95th Anniversary of Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage on Saturday,
June 20, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Located in Buffalo, New York, Mineo & Sapio, formerly known
as Mineo's, was founded in 1920 as a neighborhood meat market by John
Mineo, who quickly earned a reputation for making fine fresh Italian
Sausages; and
WHEREAS, In 1951, John Mineo was joined by his son-in-law, Ralph
Sapio, and the meat market became known as Mineo & Sapio Meats; six
years later, Ralph Sapio became the sole proprietor and maintained not
only the market's name, but its reputation for the finest Italian
Sausage in Western New York; and
WHEREAS, With the emergence of large grocers who offered one-stop
shopping, and the increased popularity of the fast food business in the
early 1960's, Ralph Sapio realized he needed to change his business to
accommodate the public's changing buying habits; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Ralph Sapio developed an Italian Sausage
patty made with the same demanding standards John Mineo established more
than 40 years earlier, which offered the portion control, convenience
and quality the fast food industry demanded; following the success of
this new sausage product, customer demands prompted the development of
another new product, a high quality Italian meatball; and
WHEREAS, Today, after 95 years of distinguished service to its commu-
nity, Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage remains steadfastly in tune with the
needs of its customers; and
WHEREAS, A true Western New York tradition, Mineo & Sapio Italian
Sausage sells direct to consumers at its retail store in Buffalo, New
York, through major supermarkets and specialty stores throughout Western
New York, and on its website; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage is a major suppli-
er of Italian Sausage and Italian Meatballs to the food industry in
Western New York; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage
continues to supply its customers with the highest quality products, at
competitive prices, and remains the company whose product is used as the
standard for excellence within its industry; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Mineo & Sapio
Italian Sausage; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional business and its contributions to the local and
State economies, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling success it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 95th Anniversary of Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage on
June 20, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mineo & Sapio Italian Sausage, Buffalo, New York.
