LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Judy Solomon upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Keter Torah Award by the Jericho Jewish
Center on June 24, 2015

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State is great-
ly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who devote
themselves to endeavors of family, faith and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Judy
Solomon upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Keter
Torah Award by the Jericho Jewish Center, to be celebrated on Wednesday,
June 24, 2015, at the Jericho Jewish Center, Jericho, New York; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Jericho since 1961, Judy Solomon attended
Queens College where she majored in Elementary Education, minored in
Music, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree; she went on to earn a
Master's of Science in Education and spent her illustrious career as an
Elementary School teacher in Elmont and Glen Head, New York; and
WHEREAS, In the 1970s, Judy Solomon became President of the award
winning Parent's Council of the Jericho Jewish Center, serving a student
body of more than 400 children; she held a position on the Synagogue
Board of Trustees and was honored by the State of Israel Bonds; and
WHEREAS, As a community minded individual, Judy Solomon served as
membership chairperson for Na'amat USA, an organization devoted to rais-
ing funds for the support of homeless children, daycare centers, agri-
cultural schools and education of adults in the State of Israel; and
WHEREAS, Judy Solomon also served as Pre-School Chair at the Robbins
Lane School in Syosset, where she was responsible for organizing the
orientation program for incoming kindergarteners and the pre-school
vision screening program; and
WHEREAS, Today, Judy Solomon is tirelessly dedicated to the Jericho
Jewish Center (JCC); she is an active member of the Board of Trustees
and serves as Sisterhood Co-chairperson of Torah Fund; she is a member
of the Strategic Planning Committee and the Rabbi Search Committee; and
WHEREAS, In addition, as a member of the Musical Arts Committee, Judy
Solomon is responsible for the solicitation of advertising and donations
to support its programs; she is also a proofreader for the JCC newslet-
ter, a regular attendee at Shabbat services and participated in an Adult
Bat Mitzvah as one of the "Elite Eight"; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Judy Solomon
is the proud and recent recipient of the BOLI Women's League Woman of
Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, the late Herb Solomon, with her
throughout have been her children, Lloyd (Stephanie), Barbara and Sharon
(David), as well as 14 grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be
a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Judy Solomon has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Judy Solomon upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Keter Torah Award by the Jericho Jewish Center on June 24, 2015; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judy Solomon.
