LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Beth and Mark Wilkow upon the occasion
of their designation as the recipients of the Couple of the Year Award
by the Jericho Jewish Center on June 24, 2015
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State is great-
ly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who devote
themselves to endeavors of family, faith and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Beth
and Mark Wilkow upon the occasion of their designation as the recipients
of the Couple of the Year Award by the Jericho Jewish Center, to be
celebrated on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Jericho Jewish Center,
Jericho, New York; and
WHEREAS, Beth and Mark Wilkow, along with their children Nicole and
Jack, have been members of the Jericho Jewish Center (JCC) for nearly 15
years; Mark has been a member of the JCC Board of Trustees since 2008,
and is completing his term as President on June 30, 2015; Beth is an
active member of the Sisterhood and is currently Recording Secretary;
and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1967, Mark Wilkow attended the
State University of New York College at Buffalo where he met Beth during
their first semester and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Criminal Justice; he went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from the
Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center at Touro College in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Beth Wilkow was also born in Brooklyn, New York in 1967; she
graduated from the State University of New York College at Buffalo with
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and received her Master's in
Education from Adelphi University in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Beth and Mark were united in marriage on August 17,1991,
during which time they lived in Bayside, Queens before moving to their
first home in New Hyde Park and finally settling in Jericho 16 years
ago; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating from law school, Mark Wilkow's career took
him from a medium sized law firm in New York City doing real estate
litigation to serving as the General Counsel for a real estate manage-
ment company; he then opened his own practice which has since moved to
its current location in Jericho; and
WHEREAS, Beth Wilkow has spent her illustrious 25-year career as an
Elementary School teacher, first in the Williamsburg section of Brook-
lyn, and for the past 15 years, in Flushing, Queens; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this esteemed woman was one of the first teach-
ers selected in her school to participate in an Integrated Co-Teaching
(ICT) classroom, a program which is currently the standard for teaching
special needs children across the country; she is also the UFT Union
Representative in her school, a position she has held for the past five
years; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Beth and Mark Wilkow have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Beth and Mark Wilkow upon the occasion of their designation as the
recipients of the Couple of the Year Award by the Jericho Jewish Center
on June 24, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Beth and Mark Wilkow.
