LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring William Corbett upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Founder's Award by Capital Region Spon-
sor-A-Scholar, Inc. on June 17, 2015

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and organ-
izations that provide exemplary service, whether through participation
in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in their
profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of good
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate
their lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor William
Corbett upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Found-
er's Award by Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, Inc., to be celebrated
at its Annual Graduation Celebration on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at the
Italian American Community Center, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, William Corbett has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Longtime President of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar,
William Corbett has been instrumental in the profound success of this
vital organization; he will step down from this esteemed position during
the summer of 2015, after many years of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for each of his students, William Corbett
provides both advice and guidance to countless individuals, ensuring
their successful completion of college; under his able leadership, the
organization has grown from 130 students in high school and college to
its present size of 450 students, and will celebrate its 200th graduate
this Spring; and
WHEREAS, William Corbett has truly strengthened Capital Region
Sponsor-A-Scholar's role in the community through his active involvement
in many local organizations; he is the current Board Chair of the St.
Anne's Institute Board of Directors and President of the Dartmouth Club
of Eastern New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he holds a Directors position with the National
alumni association for The College of Saint Rose and is the District
Grant Sub-Committee Chair for 7190 of Rotary; he is an Adviser for the
Black and Latino Achievers program with the Capital District YMCA and an
Ambassador for the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, William Corbett has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 32 years, Diane,
and their two sons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which William Corbett has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William Corbett upon the occasion of his designation as recipient

of the Founder's Award by Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar, Inc. on June
17, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William Corbett.
