LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sister Anne Bryan Smollin posthumously
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Bishop Howard
Hubbard Humanitarian Award on June 18, 2015
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary individuals within the Empire State who made
strong contributions to their communities and who inspired others
through their model citizenry and noble deeds; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sister Anne Bryan Smollin posthumously upon the occasion of her desig-
nation as recipient of the Bishop Howard Hubbard Humanitarian Award by
Catholic Charities, to be celebrated at its 3rd Annual Night at the
Museum Event on Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the New York State Museum,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of her community, Sister Anne
Bryan Smollin was called upon to contribute her time and talents to
countless civic and charitable endeavors and always gave of herself
unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, The late Sister Anne Bryan Smollin is being honored with this
auspicious award for her years of steadfast and unremitting service in
counseling ministry youth, families and the poor around the world; and
WHEREAS, An extraordinary friend, counselor and dedicated sister of
St. Joseph, Sister Anne Bryan Smollin began her illustrious career with
Catholic Charities through the Counseling for Laity program, which was
originally a ministry of Catholic Charities in Albany and continued for
33 years; and
WHEREAS, Through her work as a counselor, Sister Anne Bryan Smollin
touched hundreds of lives and helped share the love of Christ through
the use of empathy, story, humor and laughter; and
WHEREAS, Sister Anne Bryan Smollin gave not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for this special honor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Sister Anne Bryan Smollin certainly
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Anne Bryan Smollin posthumously upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Bishop Howard Hubbard Humanitarian Award
on June 18, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Sister Anne Bryan Smollin.
