LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Patricia Meschino for her eminent work
as an American Journalist

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay just
tribute to those whose creative talents and commitment to the arts
contribute to the enrichment of their community and the world, and to
pay homage to a woman whose life of artistic accomplishment stands out
as an inspiration to others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Patricia Meschino for her eminent work as an American Journalist; and
WHEREAS, American Journalist Patricia Meschino has covered the reggae
beat for more than 20 years, traveling throughout the United States and
Jamaica regularly to report on everything from emerging trends to live
shows and album launches; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Rhode Island, a region which has had a vibrant
reggae colony since the 1970s, Patricia Meschino moved to New York City
when she was 18 years old; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Meschino began her illustrious career in 1991, the
heyday of major label involvement with reggae and dancehall; her first
publication was with Reggae Report magazine, a monthly Miami magazine;
and
WHEREAS, Since that time, Patricia Meschino has written for The
Source, Vibe, The Village Voice, Jamrock and Billboard magazines; she
had a long association with SkyWritings, from 1996 to 2010, and worked
with BobMarley.com, the official Marley family website; and
WHEREAS, With a deep and sophisticated appreciation of, respect for,
and knowledge of Jamaican music, especially reggae-dancehall, Patricia
Meschino is currently a reggae writer for Billboard magazine; her work
with Billboard includes features on new albums and the 20th Anniversary
of Reggae Sumfest; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as a journalist, Patricia Meschino has served
with loyalty, honor and distinction, and truly earned the admiration,
esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Patricia Meschino; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Patricia Meschino for her eminent work as an American Journal-
ist; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Patricia Meschino.
