LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Jewish
Learning Network

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in New York State is greatly
enriched by its religious institutions and the faithful and generous
service of those who devote themselves to endeavors of family, faith,
and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend organizations of such magnanimous conduct and bearing which
demonstrate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary of the Jewish Learning Network; and
WHEREAS, The Jewish Learning Network (JNet) was established in 2005 by
Merkos L'Inyonei Chinuch to fill the need for a more personal, fulfill-
ing and convenient way for the Jewish community to connect to their
heritage; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization provides business people, students
and homemakers the opportunity to take some time out of their busy work
week to study Torah, from the weekly Parsha to the technical intricacies
of Jewish Law, the stimulating logical analysis of the Talmud to the
spirituality and meaning of Chassidus and the Kabbalah; and
WHEREAS, With the aim of making personalized Torah learning available
to everyone, everywhere, at every level, JNet matches its dedicated
volunteers with chavrusas, a traditional rabbinic approach to Talmudic
study in which a pair of students analyze, discuss, and debate a shared
text; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Rabbi Yehuda Dukes, JNet has
grown tremendously to include thousands of chavrusas, and has expanded
to online courses, learning campaigns, and a "JNet en Espanol" branch
which has more than 220 chavrusas learning Spanish each week; and
WHEREAS, Religious organizations, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Jewish Learning Network is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff and volunteers, whose involve-
ment is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment,
an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Jewish Learning
Network; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Jewish Learning Network; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
