LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David L. Kagan for his distinguished
military service as a member of the United States Coast Guard to be
celebrated in June 2015

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict; David L. Kagan is one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor David L. Kagan
for his distinguished military service as a member of the United States
Coast Guard, and to congratulate him on celebrating his 90th Birthday in
June 2015; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional nonagenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, David L. Kagan valiantly served his country during World War
II as part of the Greatest Generation; and
WHEREAS, David met his future wife, the late Shirley, during the war
at a USO club; she too was proudly serving her country as a nurse in the
United States Navy; together, they raised their family instilling in
them a great respect and love of our Nation; and
WHEREAS, David L. Kagan and his family were leaders of the Albany
Orthodox Jewish community and served as the Kosher butchers in Upstate
New York; the Kagan Kosher Meat Market was known for donating meat to
needy families during the war; and
WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David L. Kagan for his distinguished military service as a member
of the United States Coast Guard, and to wish him a very Happy 90th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David L. Kagan.
