LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mike Driscoll upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Citizen of the Year Award by the Somers
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed residents who have distinguished themselves in their profession
and in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Mike Driscoll will receive the Citizen of the Year Award by
the Somers Chamber of Commerce during a dinner to be held at the Angle-
brook Golf Course on June 17, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Mike Driscoll knew his life direction at the young age of 13,
when he witnessed a police officer subdue a murder suspect following a
gun battle; from that day on, he knew he wanted a career in law enforce-
ment; and
WHEREAS, He first served his country with honor in the Marine
Reserves, and earned a Bachelor's degree from the New York Institute of
Technology; and
WHEREAS, Mike Driscoll began his distinguished career as a beat cop
for the New York City Police Department; he patrolled the Boston
Road/Charlotte Street section of the Bronx, an area then known for its
poverty; and
WHEREAS, Through his hard work and expertise, Mike Driscoll was named
to the elite Emergency Services Unit; he assisted in the deliveries of
28 babies during his service to the ESU; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Mike Driscoll retired from the NYPD but returned to
law enforcement in 1986, as a part-time officer in the Somers Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Mike Driscoll was appointed Chief of the Somers Police
Department in 1990, upon the retirement of then-Chief Ed Gall; and
WHEREAS, Mike Driscoll once subdued a distraught man who had an auto-
matic rifle in his own yard, in the midst of other Somers and State
Police officers, without a single shot being fired; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife of 53 years, Therese,
who feels privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Mike exhibits the true spirit of the prestigious Citizen of
the Year Award through his tireless dedication as a law enforcement
officer and Chief of Police; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mike Driscoll upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Citizen of the Year Award by the Somers Chamber of Commerce; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mike Driscoll.
