LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Central Square American Legion
Post 915 and the Town of Hastings upon the occasion of celebrating its
Army Tank Dedication on June 14, 2015

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Central
Square American Legion Post 915 and the Town of Hastings upon the occa-
sion of celebrating its Army Tank Dedication, to be held on Flag Day,
Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Veterans Park, Central Square, New York; and
WHEREAS, For numerous years, the Central Park American Legion Post
915, the Town of Hastings and community members have worked to procure a
tank to be displayed in Veterans Park; their dream will be realized on
June 14, 2015, when the M60 "Patton" Battle Tank will be dedicated; and
WHEREAS, The M60 "Patton" Battle Tank has been described as a conven-
tional tank for its time and categorized as a first generation Main
Battle Tank; and
WHEREAS, In addition to viewing the tank, the citizens of Central
Square will also acknowledge Flag Day, which coincides with this momen-
tous occasion; and
WHEREAS; The American Flag, symbol of the Republic for 239 years, has
undergone many changes over its history; the current 50-star version was
raised for the first time officially at 12:01 a.m., July 4, 1960, at
Fort McHenry National Monument in Baltimore, Maryland, heralding the
admission of our 50th state, Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, The flag of the United States has inspired its citizens,
soldiers, and veterans in battle, reassured us in times of peace, and
comforted us at moments of great national grief; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited their patriotism both at home and abroad,
these men and women demonstrated their love for their country and merit
forevermore, the highest respect of their State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Central Square American Legion Post 915 and the Town of
Hastings upon the occasion of celebrating its Army Tank Dedication on
June 14, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Central Square American Legion Post 915, and the Town of
Hastings.
