LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alan Sweet upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Alan Sweet
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal,
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 23, 1993, in Olean, New York, to Lon and
Linda Sweet, Alan Sweet is an interior firefighter and Emergency Medical
Technician with the Cuba Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Alan Sweet lives in Cuba, New York, with his girlfriend,
Serene Pierce; and
WHEREAS, Alan Sweet is a respected member of his community who has
dedicated himself to making his community safe; and
WHEREAS, On February 21, 2015, Alan Sweet braved fire and danger to
attempt rescue of domestic violence victims advocate Shannon Pepper
after flames erupted from Erin's Isle Apartments in Cuba, New York; and
WHEREAS, For his heroic actions, Alan Sweet was awarded the Cuba Fire
Department's Fireman of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, Special recognition should be given to those who work so
assiduously for the betterment of their communities, and they should be
acknowledged publicly for their heroic actions as firefighters in this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cuba Fire Department Firefighter Alan Sweet upon the occasion of
his designation as a recipient of the Liberty Medal, the highest honor
bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mr. Alan Sweet.
