LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Frederick Meagher, Sr. Esq. upon
the occasion of celebrating his 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Meagher, Sr., affectionately known as Fred, was
born on May 19, 1915; and
WHEREAS, An Albany Law School graduate, Frederick Meagher, Sr. was
admitted to practice in 1939, after earning his degree from Hamilton
College in 1936; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Meagher, Sr. began his illustrious career in the
firm of Meagher and Meagher which was founded by his father and his
brother, Jefferson, in 1935; and
WHEREAS, During the Second World War, Frederick Meagher, Sr. worked
for the FBI before becoming a member of the Judge Advocate General's
Office of the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of the war, Frederick Meagher, Sr.
established the firm of Meagher, Eisenhart and Madigan, where he prac-
ticed personal injury law and defended several railroad companies
including Erie Railroad and Atlantic Shoreline Railroad; and
WHEREAS, In 1985, after many partnerships, Frederick Meagher, Sr. once
again practiced with Meagher and Meagher, this time, along with his son,
Frederick Jr.; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Meagher, Sr. has truly enriched the lives of those
around him through his joyous and sincere love for others and through
the quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of
years; and
WHEREAS, Today, Frederick Meagher, Sr. spends his days at his family
home in Binghamton, New York, reading, doing crosswords and listening to
music, particularly records produced by various Irish performers; he
continues to get out each day, visiting locations in and around Broome
County; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his eight children, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Frederick Meagher, Sr. Esq. upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing his 100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Frederick Meagher, Sr. Esq.
