LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Sahil Abbi and Arjun Kapoor upon
the occasion of capturing the Second Place Grand Award at the 2015 Intel
International Science and Engineering Fair

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exem-
plify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Sahil Abbi and Arjun Kapoor upon the occasion of capturing the
Second Place Grand Award at the 2015 Intel International Science and
Engineering Fair recently held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is a
program of the Society for Science and the Public, an organization dedi-
cated to public engagement in scientific research and education, and
brings together some of the best and brightest young scientific minds in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, More than 1,700 finalists from 78 countries, regions, and
territories participated in the 2015 Intel International Science and
Engineering Fair (ISEF); Herricks High School Junior, Sahil Abbi, and
his partner, Arjun Kapoor, from The Wheatley School, were the recipients
of the Second Place Grand Award; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, Sahil Abbi and Arjun Kapoor were the recipients
of three Special Awards, including the Oracle Academy Award, the Nu
Alpha Theta Award for Mathematics, and the Association for Computing
Machinery Award; and
WHEREAS, These remarkable young men presented their independent
research project, to doctorate level scientists, Nobel Laureates, engi-
neers, and industry professionals who served as Intel judges; the
students compete for five million dollars in prizes and scholarships at
the world's largest pre-college science fair; and
WHEREAS, The research for their award winning project entitled, The
Construction of Low Entropy Quasi-Optimal Parallel Computing Network
Topologies, was conducted at the State University of New York at Stony
Brook under the mentorship of Dr. Yeufan Deng; and
WHEREAS, The son of Reena and Mukesh Abbi of Albertson, New York,
Sahil Abbi has won a six-day trip to Switzerland to visit The European
Organization for Nuclear Research, known as CERN, which operates the
world's largest particle physics laboratory, including particle acceler-
ators and detectors; and
WHEREAS, In achieving this high academic honor, Sahil Abbi and Arjun
Kapoor may take just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the
spirit of excellence they bring to Herricks High School, and The Wheat-
ley School; and
WHEREAS, Sahil Abbi and Arjun Kapoor stand poised on the threshold of
a broad and challenging world, a testament to the love and nurturing
care of their family, teachers and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sahil Abbi and Arjun Kapoor upon the occasion of capturing
the Second Place Grand Award at the 2015 Intel International Science and
Engineering Fair, and to wish them continued success in all their future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sahil Abbi and Arjun Kapoor.
