LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James "Jim" D. Hoffman upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service as Supervi-
sor for the Town of Williamson and the Chairman of the Wayne County
Board of Supervisors
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor James "Jim" D.
Hoffman upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of distin-
guished service as Supervisor for the Town of Williamson and the Chair-
man of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors to be celebrated at a
luncheon on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at the Wayne County Courthouse
in Lyons, New York; and
WHEREAS, "Jim" D. Hoffman proudly served his country as a member of
the United States Navy from 1967-1970; following the completion of his
military service, he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology,
graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, In 1973, "Jim" D. Hoffman became a member of the New York
State Police, serving in Williamson, New York, as a trooper on road
patrol; his dedication and professionalism led to his promotion to
Sergeant in 1979; he was ranked First in a statewide State Police promo-
tional exam for the position of Lieutenant in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Following his promotion to Lieutenant, "Jim" D. Hoffman
attended The F.B.I. National Academy for Police Officers in Quantico,
Virginia, and was awarded a fellowship for graduate school at SUNY Alba-
ny where he earned a Master's degree in Criminal Justice in 1986; and
WHEREAS, During an illustrious career with the New York State Police
spanning three decades, Trooper "Jim" D. Hoffman served in such major
assignments as Internal Affairs, Major-Traffic Services, and as Zone
Commander; and
WHEREAS, Trooper "Jim" D. Hoffman also performed such important duties
as writing and administering entrance and promotional examinations, and
was a Certified Instructor for Internal Investigations and Officer-In-
Charge of Women's Issues in the Analysis Unit; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, "Jim" D. Hoffman retired from the State Police as
Staff Inspector, and continued his service to the public by serving as
Supervisor for the Town of Williamson, New York; and
WHEREAS, For the past 12 years, Supervisor "Jim" D. Hoffman rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Williamson communi-
ty; his leadership was instrumental in making his town a better place to
live, as well as for providing sound fiscal management in the form of
lowered local tax rates, and an increase in the town's bond rating; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable man served the people of Wayne
County with honor, loyalty, and distinction after being unanimously
elected by his fellow supervisors as Chairman of the Board of Supervi-
sors in 2006, and subsequently, gaining reelection to this position
every year since; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, "Jim" D. Hoffman also
served as Vice-Chair of the Wayne County Industrial Development Agency,
and as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Genesee Transportation
Council; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he served as member of numerous boards of direc-
tors including the Genesee Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council and
the New York State Law Enforcement Accreditation Council; and
WHEREAS, "Jim" D. Hoffman has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Williamson Chamber of Commerce and the
Williamson Rotary Club, "Jim" D. Hoffman is also highly active in the
American Legion as Adjutant at the Williamson American Legion Post No.
394, and as an instructor and member of the faculty at the New York
State American Legion College; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, "Jim" D. Hoffman was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; he has
earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those public
servants who enhance the quality of life in their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards in their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and
applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor "Jim" D. Hoffman upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished public service, and to wish him all the best in
his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James "Jim" D. Hoffman.
