LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Sam Strasser for 60 years of outstand-
ing service to the Northeast Career Planning Board of Directors

WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations devoted to improving the quality
of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and self-
worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, society calls upon these individuals and
organizations to be recognized for the significance of their contrib-
utions and efforts to assist others in developing the skills necessary
to be successful, productive citizens; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Sam Strasser
for 60 years of outstanding service to the Northeast Career Planning
Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Sam Strasser, of Delmar, New York, proudly served his country
as a member of the United States Air Force, and joined Northeast Career
Planning when the company was just beginning; and
WHEREAS, Originally known as The Workshop, Inc., Northeast Career
Planning was founded in 1954, with a mission of helping people with
disabilities whether it be mental or physical, or those recovering from
addiction or substance abuse to find jobs and gain self-sufficiency; and
WHEREAS, For the past six decades, Sam Strasser has been a vital part
of the organization's mission to provide medical exams, vocational coun-
seling, and training and personal adjustment by working with other area
groups to prepare future employees for outside work; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Sam Strasser
was recognized by Northeast Career Planning at its annual dinner in 2010
with a building named in his honor; this year, he was recognized for his
60 years of service with a fishing pole, cap and gown, and an honorary
degree; he also received a plaque inscribed with his favorite saying,
"You don't give a person a fish. You teach him to fish, and that lasts a
lifetime"; and
WHEREAS, Sam Strasser has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; in addition to his work with Northeast Career
Planning, he has served on the boards of directors for several organiza-
tions including the Chapel House of the University of Albany; and
WHEREAS, Today, 85-year-old Sam Strasser continues to serve on the
Northeast Career Planning Board and as Corporate President of a factory
with no plans of stepping down; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Sam Strasser has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Sam Strasser has displayed through-
out his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sam Strasser for 60 years of outstanding service to the North-
east Career Planning Board of Directors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sam Strasser.
