LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Marilyn McIntosh upon the occasion of
her retirement after 33 years of outstanding service to the Monroe Free
Library

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor
Marilyn McIntosh upon the occasion of her retirement after 33 years of
outstanding service to the Monroe Free Library; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn McIntosh earned her master's degree in Information
Science and Policy from the State University of New York at Albany, and
a Certificate in Public Library Administration from Long Island Univer-
sity; and
WHEREAS, For the past 33 years, Marilyn McIntosh has served as Execu-
tive Director for the Monroe Free Library; in this capacity, she has
served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after she was hired in 1994, Marilyn McIntosh became
the first librarian to enable public libraries to put their yearly budg-
ets up for public vote; throughout this process, she gradually increased
the Monroe Free Library's annual budget, which helped meet the needs of
the growing community; and
WHEREAS, An active participant in the Ramapo Catskill Library System
(RCLS), Marilyn McIntosh served as Chair of the Automated Network
Services Committee (ANSER) for three years, and led the search for a new
integrated library system, ultimately taking responsibility for the
final choice and its implementation; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn McIntosh also chaired the Director's Association of
RCLS and served as its Secretary, serving on the Ramapo-Catskill Library
System Board for six years, as well as Chairing the direct Access
Committee, which monitors the equity of local inter-library usage; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn McIntosh is a founding member of the Greater Monroe
Chamber of Commerce where she served that body as Secretary for three
years, and Treasurer for one year; through her involvement she placed
the library in a position to be an integral partner in Monroe community
affairs; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as Director of MFL, Marilyn McIntosh intro-
duced several initiatives which changed the MFL from a small country
library into a much more professional organization; among them were
developing the library's website, outreach programs such as the RealCard
which involved local businesses, and creating a brand for MFL; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn McIntosh developed the library's first organizational
chart and operations policies, established departments, set up the
library financial record keeping system on Quickbooks and Quicken, and
instituted a yearly independent audit; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn McIntosh helped acquire property next door at 40
Millpond Parkway, and most recently, she has overseen the successful
renovation of the main building at 44 Millpond Parkway; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Marilyn McIntosh was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; during
her tenure with the Monroe Free Library, she earned the admiration,
esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their

profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Marilyn McIntosh upon the occasion of her retirement after 33
years of outstanding service to the Monroe Free Library; and to wish her
continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marilyn McIntosh.
