LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating five Girl Scouts upon the occasion
of receiving the distinguished Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette
Scouting's highest award and Girl Scouting's second highest achievement
on June 22, 2015
WHEREAS, Five Girl Scouts will be honored with the Girl Scout Silver
Award, Cadette Scouting's highest award and Girl Scouting's second high-
est achievement, at the 2015 Girl Scouts Silver and Bronze Award Ceremo-
ny on Monday, June 22, 2015, at the Elks Lodge, New Hyde Park, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Sixth graders Hailey Mikowski, Jillaan Gaudio, Isabella Bige-
ni, Nina Cessario, and Madeline Sepcaru are members of Girl Scouts of
America Troop 1535 of the Park Association; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people the
goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work-
ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and
encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless
hundreds of thousands who have participated in Scouting programs which
have made Scouting an American and international institution; and
WHEREAS, For their Silver Award Cadette Journey Project, entitled
"Coloring Connection", Hailey Mikowski, Jillaan Gaudio, and Isabella
Bigeni helped younger kids to learn to make good decisions and help sick
children feel better while they were patients in the hospital; and
WHEREAS, Hailey Mikowski, Jillaan Gaudio, and Isabella Bigeni's Take
Action Project was called "Coloring for a Cause"; the three Scouts
collected supplies for sick children in Cohen's Children's Hospital, and
created coloring books for the kids to decorate; and
WHEREAS, For their Silver Award Cadette Journey Project, entitled
"Teddy Bear Tea Party", Nina Cessario and Madeline Sepcaru taught girls
in Pre-Kindergarten leadership skills and the importance of being a good
role model, in hopes of inspiring them to become good citizens and
future Girl Scouts; and
WHEREAS, Nina Cessario's Take Action Project was called "One Toy at a
Time/Community Concerns"; she raised awareness of health issues which
affect families and children in the community, as well as those who
reside at Ronald McDonald House; and
WHEREAS, Madeline Sepcaru's Take Action Project was entitled "One Kid
Helping Many Kids"; she helped children to feel special about themselves
by building up their self-esteem; and
WHEREAS, The Silver Award is earned over a two-year period; it is
tangible evidence of these remarkable young women's high character and
commitment, and is a harbinger of their future service to their communi-
ty, New York State and our Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize their achievements in earning the Girl Scout Silver Award and
wishing them success, health and happiness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned honorees.
