LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating student-athlete Andrea Ernst upon
the occasion of being named the 2015 Prep Talk Player of the Year for
Girls Swimming by THE BUFFALO NEWS
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize our
young individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence
through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late student-athlete Andrea Ernst upon the occasion of being named the
2015 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Girls Swimming by THE BUFFALO NEWS
celebrated on Monday, June 15 at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel and
Conference Center in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of the Orchard Park High School Girls Varsi-
ty Swim Team, junior Andrea Ernst displayed tremendous hard word,
outstanding athletic skill, and exemplary sportsmanship to receive this
prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed young woman has made four straight trips to the
New York State Championships and was a member of the 2013-2014 USA Swim-
ming Scholastic All-America Team; and
WHEREAS, During the 2014-2015 season, Andrea Ernst won her second
consecutive New York State Championship in the 100-yard freestyle; her
winning time at the state meet was 50.88, the very same time she won in
the previous year; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Andrea Ernst took second place at the state meet
in the 50 yard freestyle, and set an Orchard Park record in an All-Amer-
ican time of 23.40 in the preliminaries; she also anchored second-place
finishes for the Quakers in the 200 and 400 free relays and helped lead
her team to a third place finish with 172 points; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Ernst will look to earn a third consecutive state
title in her senior year, and has already attracted attention from
numerous major Division I swim programs; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Andrea Ernst has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Andrea Ernst upon the occasion of being
named the 2015 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Girls Swimming by THE
BUFFALO NEWS, and to wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andrea Ernst.
