LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief Daniel J. Schwertfeger upon the
occasion of his installation as President of the New York Association of
Fire Chiefs on June 20, 2015

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to honor Chief Daniel J.
Schwertfeger upon the occasion of his installation as President of the
New York Association of Fire Chiefs at its 109th Annual Conference and
Fire 2015 Expo on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at Turning Stone Resort,
Verona, New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Association of Fire Chiefs is a non-pro-
fit, service oriented organization founded in 1904 by 60 chiefs from
around the state who were interested in sharing mutual concerns and
solutions for the benefit of the fire service; and
WHEREAS, Today, this vital organization is one of the largest fire
chiefs associations in the world and its focus now encompasses the needs
and concerns of all of the emergency services; and
WHEREAS, Incoming President of the New York State Association of Fire
Chiefs, Daniel J. Schwertfeger also serves as Chief of the Floyd Volun-
teer Fire Department in Oneida County; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer fire departments and their outstanding members are
an integral part of community protection in localities across this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters such as Chief Daniel J. Schwertfeger
not only provide the critical service of fire protection but also engage
in other activities of great benefit and importance to the communities
they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Chief
Daniel J. Schwertfeger is such a firefighter; throughout his years of
devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Daniel J. Schwertfeger upon the occasion of his installation
as President of the New York Association of Fire Chiefs on June 20,
2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Daniel J. Schwertfeger.
