LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring M. James Dawson upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service as Supervisor for
the Town of Brasher

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens of this great Empire State who have
devoted themselves to faithfully serving the best interests of their
community and the needs of its residents; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor M.
James Dawson upon the occasion of his retirement after 42 years of
distinguished service as Supervisor for the Town of Brasher celebrated
at an Open House on Sunday, December 27, 2015, at the Helena Fire
Station, Helena, New York; and
WHEREAS, M. James Dawson began his illustrious tenure as Supervisor
for the Town of Brasher on January 1, 1974, holding this esteemed post
for over 10 terms; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of the
members of his community, M. James Dawson was first elected to a two-
year term as Town Assessor in 1971, and also served as President of the
St. Lawrence County Supervisors Association as well as St. Lawrence
County Chairman in the 1980s; and
WHEREAS, M. James Dawson assumed the mantle of leadership in 1973 by
winning his first term as Supervisor for the Town of Brasher and never
looking back; and
WHEREAS, During his extraordinary career as Supervisor for the Town of
Brasher, M. James Dawson tackled many projects including building a new
municipal building, building a highway garage in Helena, upgrading the
sewage treatment plant in Brasher and coordinating the arrival of the
Helena Water District; and
WHEREAS, M. James Dawson was also instrumental in working with four
neighboring towns to consolidate services for the health center, and, in
the late 1970s, was successful in the building of new sidewalks in both
Brasher and Helena; and
WHEREAS, Seven years ago, M. James Dawson started an annual car show
that has grown in popularity; and
WHEREAS, For the past 42 years, Supervisor M. James Dawson rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the community; his lead-
ership was instrumental in making his town a better place to live, as
well as for providing sound fiscal management; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable man served the people of the
Town of Brasher as Supervisor with honor, integrity, loyalty, dedication
and distinction after gaining reelection to this position every year
since 1973; and
WHEREAS, M. James Dawson has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, M. James Dawson was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems earning
him the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those public
servants who enhance the quality of life in their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards in their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and

applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor M. James Dawson upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished public service, and to wish him all the best in
his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to M. James Dawson.
