LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mitchell R. Weiss upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2016 Ambasciatore Award by the
Italian American Museum

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Mitchell R. Weiss upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 Ambasciatore Award by the Italian American Museum to be cele-
brated on January 24, 2016, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Wood-
bury, New York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, Mitchell R. Weiss has commit-
ted his whole life to working for the benefit of his community and
fulfilling the needs of the people of the City of New York; and
WHEREAS, During his early days as an Executive with Blue Cross and
Blue Shield, Mitchell R. Weiss worked to accomplish the implementation
of programs for uninsured residents of the Harlem area of New York City;
and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man continued to help others during his time as
a consultant on government and political affairs for the Little Flower
Children Services of New York, a child care agency in Brooklyn and
Wading River, New York; and
WHEREAS, A man of faith and a proud Italian-American, Mitchell R.
Weiss serves as the Director of Development for the Church of Our Lady
of Mount Carmel in Brooklyn, and is a vital part of the annual Feast of
the Giglio; and
WHEREAS, Mitchell R. Weiss has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; he serves as a board member for the Amer-
ican Academy of Professional Law Enforcement, the American Management
Association, and the United States Selective Service System; and
WHEREAS, Mitchell R. Weiss also proudly serves as a Clergy/Community
Liaison for the First Deputy Police Commissioner and Chief of the
Department of the NYPD, as well as numerous committees in regards to
cultural diversity, race relations, health care and committees for the
disabled; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards for his outstanding service,
Mitchell R. Weiss has been honored with the Community Affairs Award from
the Brooklyn Law School Enforcement Association, the Robert Colangelo
Award from the American Academy of Professional Law Enforcement of New
York, and the Humanitarian Award from the NYPD Columbia Association; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Mitchell R. Weiss was named Man of the Year by
the Ferretti League for his work with the Italian Community, and
received the 1,181 Caritas Award from the former Bishop of Brooklyn and
the Decoration of Cavaliers by the Republic of Italy; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Mitchell was named an Honoree of the Howard Beach
Columbus Day Foundation Parade, the Lt. Det Petrosino in America Associ-
ation, and the Italian Charities of America, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Mitchell R. Weiss has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Mitchell R. Weiss has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mitchell R. Weiss upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2016 Ambasciatore Award by the Italian American Museum; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mitchell R. Weiss.
