LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Donald T. DeCarlo upon the occa-
sion of his designation as Honoree by the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and ener-
gies to the service of their community and profession, participating in
civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Donald T. DeCarlo upon the occasion of his designation as Honoree
of the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn, to be celebrated at the Club's 116th
Anniversary Dinner held on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the New York
Marriott Marquis in New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded on March 1, 1900, the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn is
the primary Catholic lay organization in the Diocese of Brooklyn; its
members work to advance Catholic interests, promote the moral improve-
ment of its members, foster their Catholic spirit, and unite them
through social gatherings held in pursuit of its mission; and
WHEREAS, Donald T. DeCarlo is a graduate of Iona College, and earned
his Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, Following the completion of his law degree, Donald T. DeCarlo
ably served as Vice President and General Counsel of the National Coun-
cil on Compensation Insurance from 1973 - 1986; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed attorney practiced law in the New York offices
of Lord, Bissell and Brook, LLP, from 1996 - 2004, where he served as
Managing Partner prior to his departure; he also served as Senior Vice
President and General Counsel of Travelers Group until 1997; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Donald T. DeCarlo is a member of numerous boards
including AmTrustFinancial Services, Inc. and the National General Hold-
ings Corporation Board of Directors; he is also a consultant to Fidelity
National Indemnity Insurance Company, and a director of such companies
as Jackson National Life Insurance Co. of New York, and Greater New York
Mutual Insurance Company and its subsidiaries; and
WHEREAS, A noted author, Donald T. DeCarlo has written three books, as
well as numerous articles on workers' compensation insurance; and
WHEREAS, Donald T. DeCarlo has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; he is a proud member of the Knights of
Malta, and graciously serves on the board of Mt. St. Michael Academy;
and
WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Donald T. DeCarlo served on the
Board of Commissioners of the New York State Insurance Fund from 1997 -
2009, and acted as its Chairman from 2011 until October of 2012; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Donald T. DeCarlo has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Donald T. DeCarlo has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Donald T. DeCarlo upon the occasion of his designation as
Honoree of the Cathedral Club of Brooklyn, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donald T. DeCarlo.
