LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Port Jervis Antique Study Club
upon the occasion of celebrating its 80th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Port Jervis Antique Study Club upon the occasion of celebrating its
80th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1935, the Port Jervis Antique Study Club will
recognize this auspicious milestone of studying antiques with a luncheon
on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at the Hotel Fauchere in Milford, Penn-
sylvania; and
WHEREAS, The Port Jervis Antique Study Club was founded by Florence
Wright, a Home Bureau agent, in Middletown, New York, where she organ-
ized a group of Orange County women interested in studying antiques; she
started the Study of Antiques Department of the Home Bureau which even-
tually became the Cornell Cooperative Extension; and
WHEREAS, The Port Jervis Antique Study Club's archives hold many trea-
sures including notes and club minutes from the 1940s that reveal how
the club members raised money for the Red Cross to give decks of playing
cards, games and handkerchiefs to the "boys" going off to war, as well
as those who were recovering in military hospitals; and
WHEREAS, Serving the community for eight decades, the Port Jervis
Antique Study Club has explored hundreds of topics such as pottery,
furniture, old books, silver jewelry, musical instruments, silverware,
antique gowns, fans, dolls, old crocks, glassware, candles, tools and
lamps; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the members create a booklet listing the monthly
program dates, meeting topics and membership directory; each booklet
cover is unique and in past years has included original watercolor
paintings, hand-tinted paper doll cutouts and calligraphy; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Port Jervis Antique Study Club is in
direct correlation to the efforts of the many individuals, including
President Norma Schadt, whose involvement is, and always has been, char-
acterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
club and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Port Jervis
Antique Study Club may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as it
looks forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Port Jervis Antique Study Club upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 80th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Norma Schadt, President, Port Jervis Antique Study Club.
