LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Marie Zalesky upon the occasion of
celebrating her 108th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Marie Zalesky was born on September 20, 1907; she celebrated
her 108th Birthday, surrounded by friends, family, and fellow Jefferson-
ville Senior Club members, with a party held in her honor at Villa Roma,
and at the Roscoe Regional Rehabilitation Facility; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Married to her husband, Joseph, for over 55 years, Marie
Zalesky has lived in the Town of Delaware her whole life; and
WHEREAS, Affectionately known as the "Bingo Lady", Marie Zalesky is
Sullivan County's oldest RSVP Volunteer, serving for 40 years and donat-
ing thousands of hours of her time and energy to her beloved community;
and
WHEREAS, Marie Zalesky began her incredible philanthropic career by
visiting patients in local hospitals, nursing homes and homebound
seniors; years later, she donated her artfully created needlework, made
reassuring phone calls to those who needed comfort, provided medical
transportation, delivered meals on wheels, tutored school children, and
assisted at the local library, as well as aided people in their tax
preparations; and
WHEREAS, For the last three decades, Marie Zalesky has been an active
volunteer at the local branch of the Catskill Regional Medical Center
Hospital, where she brings patients water, newspapers, or anything else
they might need; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was chosen as the Town of Delaware's
Senior of the Year in 1998, 2003, and 2007 through the Sullivan County
Retired and Senior Volunteer program; and
WHEREAS, Today, Marie Zalesky maintains a positive attitude and
continues to serve her neighbors in Callicoon, New York; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Marie Zalesky upon the occasion of celebrating her 108th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Marie Zalesky.
