LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Longwood High School Varsity
Football Team and Coach Jefferson Cipp upon the occasion of capturing
the 2015 Long Island Class I Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, The Longwood High School Varsity Football Team Lions captured
the 2015 Long Island Class I Championship with an impressive 47-28
triumph over Farmingdale High School on Sunday, November 29, 2015, at
Stony Brook University's LaValle Stadium, Stony Brook, New York; and
WHEREAS, With this victory, the Longwood Lions have achieved their
third Class I title in school history, while also setting a new Long
Island Championship game record with 555 rushing yards; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Jefferson Cipp and his team of outstanding
assistant coaches, skilled and inspirational tutors, respected for their
ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record of 11-1, including eight consec-
utive victories to end the season, is outstanding, and the team members
were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and
the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the 2015 Longwood High School Varsity Foot-
ball Team, from the opening game of the season, to participation in the
Long Island Class I Championship, were a brotherhood of athletic abili-
ty, of good sportsmanship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating
that these team players are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Coach Jefferson Cipp and his dedicated staff have done a
superb job in guiding, molding and inspiring the team members toward
their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Jefferson Cipp and these outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the 2015 Longwood High School Varsity Football Team, its
members: Marquis Simpson, Andy Martinez, Daniel Echeverria, Sean Rausch,
Khalil Owens, Michael Linbrunner, Erwin Zugel, Will Condron, Mehmet
Nayci, Gary Grant, Sam Wesbee, Tahj Clark, Alex Arciniega, Jordan
Shuman, Josh Rivers, Kyle George, Mike Scalice, David Perez, Jalen Hunt-
er, Maleik Bonner, Latrell Horton, Yerneliz Cruz, Carl Schmidt, Antonio
Scala, Malcolm Lingard, Jared Baker, Carlos Rivero, Alex Velazquez, Luke
Schuster, Albert Black, James Civil, Elijah Muhammad, Tyler Herrmann,
Vincent Feliciano, De-Quan Owens, Matt Weiss, Omar Anderson, Nick
Castrova, William Monahan, Jordan Cardenas, Anthony Lavio, Jaquell
Clark, Colton Cummings, Anthony Dell'Olio, Justin Fried and Michael
Heeren; Head Coach Jefferson Cipp; Assistant Head Coach John Murphy;
Assistant Coaches Sean Kluber, Bernard Hanson, and Gino Cruz; Super-
intendent Dr. Michael Lonergan; Principal Scott Schuster; Athletic
Director Gina Curiale; and Athletic Trainer Michele Mensch, on their
championship season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the 2015 Longwood High School Varsity Football Team and the
aforementioned coaches and staff.
