LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jeniffer Ortiz upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2015 Scholarship Award by the Major
General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the young
adults of today and leaders of tomorrow whose character and achievements
best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jeniffer Ortiz upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2015 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter
of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the 17th Annual
Tuition Assistance Awards Celebration on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at
Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA), Jeniffer Ortiz came
to the United States from Colombia at the age of 15, and not only quick-
ly learned English, but became fascinated with Asian languages; on her
own, she has studied Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Thai; and
WHEREAS, Jeniffer Ortiz is a member of the Bilingual Honor Society and
the Puerto Rican Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute at NFA; she plans
to study international relations and diplomacy with a minor in
languages, with the hopes to become a diplomat and ultimately achieve a
position at the United Nations; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Jeniffer Ortiz has participated
in a number of local volunteer projects such as breast cancer and animal
shelter walks, as well as volunteer functions at the Temple Hill Middle
School; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her high school career, Jeniffer Ortiz has
displayed exceptional academic achievement, a strong sense of community
responsibility, and a commitment to excellence which is unparalleled;
and
WHEREAS, Jeniffer Ortiz, in achieving this academic honor, may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excel-
lence she brings to her family, friends, community and school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jeniffer Ortiz upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2015 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris
Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and to extend her best wishes for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jeniffer Ortiz.
