LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gary Fahey upon the occasion of his
retirement after 35 years of distinguished service to the YMCA
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gary
Fahey upon the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of distin-
guished service to the YMCA; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Gary Fahey has rendered faith-
ful, conscientious and valuable service to the YMCA and to his communi-
ty, serving with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, A 1977 graduate of Burnt Hills High School, Gary Fahey went
on to earn an associate's degree in Recreation from Hudson Valley Commu-
nity College, as well as a bachelor's degree in Recreation from Brock-
port State University in 1981; and
WHEREAS, Gary Fahey began his illustrious career as Assistant Physical
Director with the Albany YMCA in 1984, and that same year became Senior
Program Director overseeing Health and Fitness; he went on to serve in
such capacities as Center Program Director, Associate Executive Direc-
tor, Health Enhancement Program Director, and Senior Program Director;
and
WHEREAS, A true leader, Gary Fahey was promoted to Oneida Facility
Branch Director in 2005, and just three years later was named Vice Pres-
ident of Membership and Program Services as well as Vice President of
Development; and
WHEREAS, In 2013, Gary Fahey earned the title of Rome Family YMCA
Executive Director, the esteemed position from which he is retiring; and
WHEREAS, Truly carrying the mission of the YMCA in his heart, Gary
Fahey has shown a steadfast and unremitting commitment to this vital
organization for 35 years, and has touched the lives of countless indi-
viduals; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Rome Family YMCA, Gary Fahey has
earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Gary Fahey over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to
others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gary Fahey upon the occasion of his retirement after 35 years of
distinguished service to the YMCA, and to wish him continued success in
all of his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gary Fahey.
