LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Justin Leathers upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2015 Scholarship Award by the Major
General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the young
adults of today and leaders of tomorrow whose character and achievements
best exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Justin Leathers upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2015 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter
of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the 17th Annual
Tuition Assistance Awards Celebration on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at
Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Newburgh Free Academy, Justin Leathers is a
member of the track team with a varsity letter in the sport for all four
years of his high school career; he gained a second place finish in the
long jump at the 2013 Junior Olympics, Randall's Island, New York; and
WHEREAS, Justin Leathers is a Second Lieutenant and has been an
Assistant Flight Commander in the school's Air Force JROTC program; he
hopes to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and major in home-
land security, with the aim of becoming an agent of the FBI; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated volunteer for the Salvation Army in Newburgh,
Justin Leathers serves as a mentor in the Salvation Army Life After
School Program, and a youth counselor in its summer program; he has also
worked to raise funds and distribute Thanksgiving meals for the Ebenezer
Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his high school career, Justin Leathers has
displayed exceptional academic achievement, a strong sense of community
responsibility, and a commitment to excellence which is unparalleled;
and
WHEREAS, Justin Leathers, in achieving this academic honor, may take
just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excel-
lence he brings to his family, friends, community and school; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Justin Leathers upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2015 Scholarship Award by the Major General Irene Trowell-Harris
Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., and to extend to him best wishes for a
future of purposeful success and well-being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Justin Leathers.
