LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Kathleen Karl upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Kathleen Karl of Allegany, New York, upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Karl was born on September 15, 1915, at home on the
South Nine Mile Road in Allegany, New York, to Frank and Kathryn Warters
Hirt; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen Karl graduated from Allegany High School in 1933;
she then attended Fredonia Normal School, where she graduated with a
degree in Elementary Education in 1936; and
WHEREAS, She served as an elementary school teacher for several rural
schools in the Allegany area prior to the centralization of the
district, and continued to serve Allegany Central School District after
its incorporation; and
WHEREAS, After her youngest child started school, Kathleen Karl
returned to teaching in the Hinsdale Central School District, where she
worked for 18 years before retiring in 1975; and
WHEREAS, She married Raymond Karl and the couple was blessed with five
children: Duane Karl, Marjorie Karl Geise, Donna Karl Wenzel, Eileen
Karl Bigler, and Nancy Karl Crawford; today, Kathleen Karl is the loving
grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Always an active member in her community, Kathleen Karl is a
Lifetime Member of St. Bonaventure Church, and a member of both the
Allegany Area Historical Association and the New York State Retired
Teachers' Association; and
WHEREAS, Kathleen and her husband Raymond also enjoyed taking friends
and family for rides in their horse drawn wagon; in 1998, following the
passing of her husband, her memoirs Down Memory Lane were printed in the
Allegany Area Historical Newsletter; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments, and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kathleen Karl upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathleen Karl.
